
Despite a global decline of around 60 per cent in under-five mortality and 52 per cent drop in neonatal mortality, countries across the world will fail to achieve targets set under Sustainable Development Goals, according to the United Nations Inter-Agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (UN IGME)
The number of global under-five deaths dropped to its lowest point on record in 2019 – down to 5.2 million from 12.5 million in 1990, according to the ‘Levels and Trends in Child Mortality’ report 2020 by the United Nations Inter-Agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (UN IGME). Lauding the decline in child deaths and asking governments to pay attention to health, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, said, “The fact that today more children live to see their first birthday than any time in history is a true mark of what can be achieved when the world puts health and well-being at the centre of our response.” Read More…
